The Honest Kitchen from Lucy Postins and The Dog’s Guide to Your Happiness: Seven Secrets for a Better Life

I can relate to Lucy Postins and why she created  THE HONEST KITCHEN for pets. I am constantly concerned about what my dogs eat and my goal is to have them live a long and full life and try to avoid any issues. There are so many issues they can develop and costs for medicine and care are so high that I am always trying to seek ways to keep them healthy and happy and out of the vet’s office.

With extensive experience as a companion animal nutritionist, Lucy Postins is an innovative entrepreneur who is passionate about advanced nutrition and holistic health including complementary modalities such as herbalism and homeopathy. Her interest in natural nutrition and the raw food diet led Postins to investigate ways to make her own pet’s food more convenient to prepare, which eventually resulted in the creation of her holistic pet food company. Prior to founding The Honest Kitchen in 2002, Postins served as the equine and canine nutritionist for a Southern California pet food manufacturer and led the company’s marketing and product development initiatives as well. Postins has been recognized by Pet Product News as one of the “25 people to watch” in 2006, 2011 and 2012, for her efforts in creating a sound, flourishing young company with innovative products and strong, widely respected marketing initiatives. Postins’ company has been named among Outside Magazine’s Best Places to Work for the past five years.

Dog obsession is an all-consuming desire to make your dog happy and healthy–from the food he eats to how he celebrates his birthday–and it’s how Lucy Postins has lived her life. When her beloved dog, Mosi, began suffering with chronic health problems that conventional medicine couldn’t cure, she took to the kitchen and made dog food from real ingredients. Soon, Mosi’s problems vanished. Inspired by her own experience, Postins founded The Honest Kitchen, the first all-natural, human-grade pet food company, and became an expert in how to give a dog the life he deserves, from puppyhood to old age.
In Dog Obsessed, Postins shares her secrets to help you care for your dog like (and sometimes better than!) family. Featuring over 50 easy-to-prepare recipes for treats, celebratory party fare, and meals that you can actually share with your dog (complete with wine pairings), the book also offers vet-approved health tips designed to troubleshoot common issues like food sensitivities and chronic illnesses, tips for camping and picnicking with your pup, as well as a two-week health and fitness plan.
Packed with humorous, helpful advice that goes beyond the average dog-care book, including dos and don’ts in the dog park, how to ensure your pup’s holidays are safe and truly special, advice on how to manage your dog’s unique personality quirks, and a section on make-at-home dog games, Dog Obsessed is the only resource passionate dog owners will ever need. Dog Obsessed is perfectly packaged with feel-good photos, stories, and illustrations, as well as a foreword written by actress and comedienne Jane Lynch and contributed content from renowned veterinarians.

Ok and speaking of my little rascals they just received baths with

Sparkle Pet Shampoo Bars

All natural, botanical shampoo bars are kind to your pup or kitty, and to the earth, too. They’re hand-made from a base of organic goat’s milk from a family farm in the Deep South, and blended with olive and coconut oil plus precious, functional herbs and botanicals that gently nourish the different needs of the skin and coat. Why Solid Shampoo? Sparkle Shampoo Bars are like ‘dehydrated’ shampoo – compact, free of wasteful ‘water weight’, efficient to ship and minimal on the packaging front, too. Our shampoo bars are super-long lasting. One bar will bubble up into about 18 baths for a 30lbs dog.  Old-fashioned liquid shampoos are bulky and heavy to ship, which means a big old Carbon Pawprint to get them from A to B. Regular shampoo also requires loads of plastic packaging, which usually means reliance on fossil fuels and questionable recyclability after use, not to mention the risk of leaks and spills from a broken bottle or bath-time fumble!

Look at the beautiful ingredients for this bar I was gifted :

Lavender, Cedar, Juniper & Rosemary (for dogs) Our most aromatic shampoo bar has a wonderful whiff that stays with your pup’s furlong after the fun of bath time is over.
Ingredients: Goat’s Milk in Saponified Oils of: Coconut, Organic Palm, Sunflower, Olive, Organic Palm Kernel; Castor Oil, Cocoa Butter, Jojoba, Lavender Oil, Cedar Oil, Juniper Oil, Rosemary Oil.

Definitely check out THE HONEST KITCHEN today for your dogs and cat foodie and health needs !

When we are chatting about dogs and how we take care of them let’s talk about how they take care of us….

dog happiness

Stress affects everyone at times. In fact, according to the American Psychological Association 75 to 90 percent of physician visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints. Award-winning professor and international public speaker Garry McDaniel wondered why we are so stressed as humans and how we can remedy this crisis. After ten years in the mental health field, McDaniel surmised that we’re not always focused on the right things. “People want to be healthy,” McDaniel says. “But we’re not.” However, when he looked to the behavior of pet dogs, he realized there must be lessons to be learned from one of the happiest creatures on earth. Alongside his co-author Sharon Massen, a business professor and lecturer in her own right, the two penned The Dog’s Guide to Your Happiness: Seven Secrets for a Better Life from a Man’s Best Friend (February 2017) as a way offer practical advice and secrets on happiness from our canine companions. The Dog’s Guide to Your Happiness: Seven Secrets for a Better Life from a Man’s Best Friend offers research, insights, and real-life stories about dogs and their people to provide seven essential traits for happiness through the eyes of our trusted furry friends. The book teaches these key attributes of dogs and applies them to our own lives: loyalty, communication, zest for play, unconditional love, forgiveness, positive attitudes, and life balance. In addition to moving stories, exercise and worksheets are also provided for further self-exploration and deeper thinking about the role of happiness in our lives.

The ultimate goal of The Dog’s Guide to Your Happiness: Seven Secrets for a Better Life from a Man’s Best Friend is to help people experience greater happiness. This book is for anyone who has ever felt rushed, stressed, and overwhelmed by daily demands and who wondered what simples steps could be taken to increase happiness and lead a more balanced and healthier life. “If the happiest creature on the planet could give us advice to improve our lives—to be better workers, managers, parents, children, and friends—what would they say?” McDaniel asks.
