This weekend we went to check out a new concept gallery space – Fort Gansevoort in one of my former favorite restaurant haunts 5 Ninth

gans3Located in the heart of the Meatpacking District, Fort Gansevoort is a cultural hub for art, design, and food, founded by curator Adam Shopkorn and his wife Carolyn Angel. Set in a Greek Revival row house built in 1849, Fort Gansevoort is located on Gansevoort Plaza, between the intersection of Gansevoort and Little West 12th Street. The three-story building contains a gallery, take-out BBQ window, and dynamic spaces for curated retail experiences.

I went to see the beautiful candies I saw pictured on someone’s instagram but also met the incredible Cara Marie Piazza who has this incredible natural dye shop set up – it was called a color apothecary in Vogue.  I spoke to her about making some curtains for our new house. We would love to have pieces in our house that are art but also made with respect and are authentic.  You can see how much love, care and pride goes into her work – great holiday gifts for sure ! Then we met NOVA PERFUMER JULIA ZANGRILLI who will be having lovely classes – another great gift idea. Something personalized and very special.  Last was MAAYAN ZILBERMAN of Sweet Saba has created this almost crystal rock candy vibe but luxe that almost feel mythical. They are so beautiful and delicious – I had the champagne while Scott tried the ginger tumeric.

gans4I read up a little after about the team behind this amazing concept.

Adam Shopkorn and Carolyn Angel will work with artists and change them out every two months.  They get to work right there plus have a retail operation – it is a great way to support artisans and really have New York be NY – I always love when we can represent art, creativity and entrepreneurship – this is a genius idea and the space felt like it had a ton of soul.

After we went to the Gansevoort Market and had to try a BRUFFIN #cakie – so good in birthday cake ! Prior too we had some delicious turkish food at ISTANBUL GRILL – it was so yummy and definitely one of my new favorite spots – so flavorful. gansgans2

Always love seeing new street art on the street.
